The 17th International Symposium on Chiral Discrimination (Chirality-2005) will be held at the Parma University from Sunday September 11 to Wednesday 14 2005, under the auspices of the Organic Chemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society.

The ISCD Symposium is the annual international symposium forum in which specialists discuss the latest results in the field of chirality and molecular asymmetry both at the fundamental and applicative levels. The conference topics will include the most recents developments and applications in the field of the separation sciences, chemistry, biology, medicine, pharmacology, physics, crystallography and computer science.

The Chirality Medal Honorary Committe is pleased to announce that the Chirality Medal 2005 has been awarded to Prof. Kenso Soai, Tokyo University of Science, Japan. Prof. Kenso Soai will deliver the Chirality Medal Award lecture at the opening Ceremony of ISCD-17 on Sunday September 11 at the Teatro Regio, Parma.

The Chirality Medal was instituted by the Società Chimica Italiana in 1991 to honor internationally recognized scientists who have made a distinguished contribution to all aspects of chirality.

Short Intensive Courses

Before the beginning of the Symposium, on September 11th, from 9.00 to 17.00, four Short intensive courses on topics related to chirality will be held at the Hotel de Ville, near the City Centre. Each course will cost € 250.

Short courses topics will be:

- Spectroscopic methods for the investigation of chiral compounds;

- High performance enantioselective separation processes: theoretical and practical aspects;

- Chirality in biorecognition;

- Preparative Enantioseparation through HPLC: Fundamentals and Industrial Applications;
